7 Albus 1 : A very bright white dwarf candidate
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have serendipitously discovered a previously-unknown, bright source (BT = 11.75±0.07mag) with a very blue VT − Ks color, to which we have named Albus 1. A photometric and astrometric study using Virtual Observatory tools has shown that it possesses an appreciable proper motion and magnitudes and colors very similar to those of the well known white dwarf G 191–B2B. We consider Albus 1 as a DA-type white dwarf located at about 40 pc. If confirmed its nature, Albus 1 would be the sixth brightest isolated white dwarf in the sky, which would make it an excellent spectrophotometric standard. HS 0146+1847 – a DAZB white dwarf of very unusual composition
HS 0146+1847, originally identified as a white dwarf candidate in proper motion surveys, was rediscovered as a candidate in the Hamburg Quasar Survey. Spectra obtained for the SPY (ESO Supernova Ia Progenitor) survey show strong Balmer and Ca II lines, suggesting a classification as DAZ white dwarf. Contrary to the objects known so far in this class, HS 0146+1847 has a helium-rich atmosphere at...

We report on possible associations between 6 globular clusters in the Virgo elliptical galaxy NGC 4472 (M49) and bright (Lx > 1038 erg s−1) very soft X-ray sources (VSSs). Two of the VSSs have broad-band spectral properties consistent with those of luminous supersoft X-ray sources (SSSs). The other VSSs are somewhat harder harder, possibly with values of k T between roughly 150 eV and 250 eV. T...
متن کاملThe Puzzling White Dwarf Cooling Sequence in NGC 6791: A Simple Solution
In this paper we demonstrate that the puzzling bright peak in the luminosity function of the white dwarf (WD) cooling sequence of NGC 6791 can be naturally accounted for if ∼ 34% of the observed WDs are WD+WD binary systems. Subject headings: open clusters and associations: individual (NGC 6791) — white dwarfs
متن کاملOff - center explosions of Chandrasekhar - mass white dwarfs : an explanation of super - bright type Ia supernovae ?
Context. The recent discovery of a very bright type Ia supernova, SNLS-03D3bb (≡ SN 2003fg), in the Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS) has raised the question of whether super-Chandrasekhar-mass white dwarf stars are needed to explain such explosions. In principle, such a progenitor could form by the mergers of two rather massive white dwarfs. Aims. Binary systems of two white dwarfs in close orbit...
